Economic cooperation: Beninese and Nigerian Customs strengthen links

Beninese and Nigerian customs give meaning to economic cooperation between the two countries in accordance with the wishes of Presidents Patrice Talon and Ahmed Bola Tinubu. In response to the invitation of the Director General of Customs of Nigeria, Bachir Adewale Adeniyi, the Director General of Customs of Benin Alain HINKATI has been making an official working visit to Nigeria since Monday 11 September 2023. It is accompanied by a strong delegation composed of customs officers, customs officers, managers of the Cotonou autonomous port and the Ministry of Economy and Finance. During the three days of work, the customs administrations of the two countries will have direct exchanges in order to revolutionize the economic and trade relations between the two countries. It is recalled that, at the end of the visit to Benin of the General Controller of Customs of Nigeria Bachir Adewale Adeniyi, the final communiqué addressed a number of important issues, including the removal of barriers and other barriers to lawful trade, strict compliance with transit rules, harmonization of the list of products prohibited by both countries, Nigeria's integration into SIGMAT, etc.

The Nigeria meeting thus gives the two financial authorities of the two countries an opportunity to study the conditions for adopting and implementing the various measures, but also and above all to promote a more fluid trade and economic relations between Benin and Nigeria. The Government of President Talon has been working for several years to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. And again recently, the Minister of State for Economy and Finance, Romuald WADAGNI, reminded the General Directors of the customs administrations of Benin and Nigeria. Nigeria's meeting ends on Wednesday, September 13, 2023.

A joint communiqué will be issued at the end of the work.
