Free movement of persons and goods: Benin cited as a model in the sub-region

At the 55th ordinary session of the Heads of State of the Economic Community of West African States, a number of issues were discussed with the Republic of Benin. On that occasion, the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Patrice Talon, received the congratulations of his peers on the respect of the rules on the free movement of goods and persons in the ECOWAS Area. The Task Force's report on the free movement of persons and goods bears witness to this. According to the Task Force report, after the investigations conducted, Benin was recognized as the most fluid corridor in the subregion on the question of the free movement of persons and goods. During the 55th session of the Heads of State of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), several topics were raised on Benin. Thus, the Government of the Republic of Benin can rejoice in this honour for Benin in general and for the security forces and assimilated in particular in this case the Beninese customs administration and the Republican police. Among other measures taken, we can mention: the suspension of several police and customs checkpoints erected on both sides throughout the national territory; the unbridled fight against ransom and all sorts of harassment on the various roads in Benin and the provision of green numbers to users in order to denounce indelicate colleagues.
