19,860 packs of cigarettes seized in Ouémé and Donga

Benin Customs continues its offensive against illicit trafficking networks. Following the large-scale seizures of prohibited goods and fraud recorded in recent weeks in the departments of Alibori, Atacora and Mono, a new operation in Ouémé confirms the effectiveness of the Regional Anti-Fraud Services.

On 05 August 2026, following the exploitation of information deemed reliable, elements of the Ouémé-Plateau Regional Anti-Fraud Service (SRLCF-OP), led by the Regional Chief of Service, the First Class Inspector Maurice Chaudieu AMOUSSOU, intercepted in Danvidokpo a dump truck carrying cigarettes and pharmaceuticals fraudulently. The vehicle was searched for 36 cartons of cigarettes, representing 1,780 cartons, 17,800 cartons or 351,500 baguettes of cigarettes, as well as four packages of pharmaceutical products, for a total weight of 496 kilograms. The vehicle and its entire load were immediately seized for the procedures laid down in the customs regulations.

This take, which follows that of 2060 packs of cigarettes carried out by the Regional Service for Combating Fraud Atacora-Donga, on 06 August 2026, once again illustrates the effectiveness of customs intelligence, which has become a key lever in targeting fraud.

This continuous and strengthened monitoring reflects the determination of the Customs Administration to reduce fraud on a sustainable basis and to disrupt the supply channels of criminal networks.
