Beterou: Benin Customs seizes 3,000 hunting cartridges and strengthens the fight against illegal trafficking

Borgou-Alibori Regional Anti-Fraud Service intercepts large ammunition shipments

On Saturday, 20 June 2026, the agents of the Borgou-Alibori Regional Anti-Fraud Service (SRLCF/B-A) carried out an important ammunition seizure in Beterou under the leadership of Colonels ALOFA Rodrigue and DANON Romaric, confirming the strengthening of the actions of the Benin Customs in the fight against illicit trafficking and cross-border crime.

With operational intelligence, customs teams intercepted a vehicle from Jugou to Parakou. During the inspection, the driver attempted to escape before being promptly arrested by the officers involved in the operation.

The vehicle was searched for twelve (12) cartons containing a total of three thousand (3,000) 12-gauge shotguns carefully concealed in the cargo.

The ammunition seized and the driver were handed over to the competent authorities for the purposes of the investigation and the judicial follow-up provided for in the regulations in force.

This operation takes place only 11 days after another major seizure carried out on 9 June 2026 on the Parakou-N的Dali axis. The officers of the same service then intercepted 304.7 kilograms of psychotropic products and 625 hunting cartridges hidden in a transport vehicle.

This succession of seizures reflects the mobilization of customs services around the operational priorities set by the Director-General of Customs, Colonel Raouf Malèhossou Abudou, to strengthen the fight against illicit trafficking and to better protect the national territory.

These two successive operations illustrate the ongoing vigilance of customs units and their commitment to the fight against illegal trafficking, organised fraud and criminal networks operating on transport corridors.

Beyond their mission of mobilizing public revenues and facilitating trade, Benin Customs also play a key role in protecting the national territory and the security of the people. Through intelligence, controls and cooperation with other defence and security forces, they actively contribute to the prevention of threats related to drug trafficking, arms, ammunition and all forms of cross-border crime.

The General Directorate of Customs reaffirms its determination to continue its surveillance, control and intelligence activities in order to guarantee the security of the national territory, protect the population and contribute to the preservation of peace in Benin.
