Wednesday 22 July 2026- the Customs makes a big catch on the Sonahoulou-Djougou axis

A total of ten (10) bags of explosives weighing nearly 500 kilograms carefully concealed in goods transported in a vehicle from Kétao in Togo seized by the Regional Anti-Fraud Service (SRLCF) Atacora-Donga, under the leadership of the Inspector of 1st Class Perfect Laurent MEKOUN. This large, potentially dangerous cargo was intercepted at the Anum post before it reached its Malanville destination, thanks to the vigilance and professionalism of the Agents. The driver of the vehicle immediately fled.

An investigation is under way and investigations are ongoing to dismantle this criminal trafficking network.

This new operation is adding to a series of successes recorded in recent weeks by the operational services of Benin Customs, including the seizures of 3000 hunting cartridges in Borgou, the interception of more than 1,400 kilograms of contraband drugs in the Couffo as well as the 5,574 Android phones seized in Hillacondji. These results reflect the intensification of surveillance and intelligence operations throughout the national territory.

These performances illustrate the Customs' strategic role in national security in a context marked by the resurgence of the terrorist threat and the growing activity of criminal networks.

This dynamic is part of the vision of the Director General of Customs, Colonel Raouf Malèhossou ABOUDOU, who has made the strengthening of the operational presence, the exploitation of intelligence, the modernization of the means of intervention and the coordination of units, priorities of his command. The results show the daily commitment of the unit leaders and their staff.

The Benin Customs thus reaffirms their determination to remain a modern, offensive and fully committed administration alongside the other Defence and Security Forces in the fight against all forms of cross-border crime.
