  • Promotion of the facilitation of inter-State road transport and transit in Benin. – DIRECTORATE-GENERAL FOR CUSTOMS

Promotion of the facilitation of inter-State road transport and transit in Benin.

As part of the promotion of intra-Community trade, the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) through Directive No.08/2005/CM/UEMOA recommends the reduction of checkpoints and ultimately the eradication of harassment on the various roads.

To this end, a National Committee for Facilitation of Interstate Transport and Road Transit (CNF), established by interministerial decree No.065/MTPT/MFE/MDN/MISD/MAEPArrétité Interministerial setting up, powers, composition and operation of the National Committee for Transport Facilitation and Interstate Road Transit/MSP/MICPE/DC/SG/CTTT/DGTT/SER of 11 November 2005, is responsible for receiving appeals from users in case of abuse on inter-state roads and for studying them for a solution. As such, the Committee organises periodic monitoring, awareness-raising and statistical data-gathering visits to checkpoints along the corridors.

The Committee's actions enable the Member States' administrations, in particular the customs authorities, to take appropriate measures through memos to remedy the possible deviations of the agents responsible for checks.

In addition, it is responsible for facilitating the development of transport and trade-related technologies, raising the awareness of economic operators in the transport sector and providing a forum for the simplification of transport and trade formalities, procedures and documents.
